1. Online Free Play Mode
This is a fresh way of practising while online with friends, without the pressure of a timed match or testing solo offline.
This is located within the training area, then free play, and you can simply join a session that someone else has created or set up your own. When doing so, options such as the type of boost, the map, ball reset and toggle goal explosions.
SocCar, Hoops, Snow Day and Dropshot game types can be tested too. Simply, this could be the new best way of practising teamwork, or moves that require players to synchronize their movement.
2. Split Shot - LTM
In this fresh limited-time mode (LTM), in Split Shot there’s a transparent wall in the middle of the pitch. Cross over from your side to your rival’s, and as soon as you touch the ground (or walls), you explode - this can place a great emphasis on aerial moves, as the detonation only occurs once you touch terrafirma.
The concept is to try and make you score long-range goals in 3v3 teams. Items to pay particular attention to here is that there is unlimited boost and the ball will return to the centre every 30 seconds if no one has scored.
3. Neo Tokyo Arena
The two new game modes are joined by another arena - Neo Tokyo (Arcade).
This is a reimagining of a map that was first released way back in 2017, but now with an ‘arcade’ theme - that means neon lights and buildings that are reminiscent of gaming arcade machines.
While it looks pretty, it can be harder to gauge depth perception, especially in relation to when the ball may hit walls - so being effective here will take some time.
Of course, alongside these three main additions, which directly affect gameplay, you can also expect a new premium Rocket Pass, with the Shokunin Car Body unlocked at Tier 1 and the sportier GXT variant at Tier 40.
Keep your eyes peeled for the limited-time Frosty Fest in-game challenges too to unlock winter and festive-themed items.
