1. NASCAR 25
When NASCAR 25 releases at some point next season, it will mark four years since the last official game of the premier stock car championship. But, it should be worth the wait.
It is being created by Monster Games, who has previously created seven NASCAR titles and is under the stewardship of iRacing.
It will mean the sharing of data and assets between the game and the sim platform. Each track will be laser scanned, for example, and we hope some of the vehicle handling nous is also used.
2. Project Motor Racing
This is big news for aspiring sim racers. In the 2010s, a series called Project CARS was pioneering with expansive multiplayer options, nascent esports competitions and a genre-leading weather system.
Now, following the cancellation of Project CARS 4, most of the original development team and talismanic lead Ian Bell have returned with a new racing game – Project Motor Racing.
It will mix custom physics technology with the graphics engine from the popular Farming Simulator games.
3. Le Mans Ultimate Version 1.0
The official simulation of the FIA World Endurance Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans event has been released but in a work-in-progress ‘early access’ form. In 2025, it is expected to be completed, with a full version 1.0 launch.
In December 2024, the first LMGT3 cars and server hosting for community racers will launch, both of which will be expanded upon in the new year. Additional features and optimisations, such as enhanced VR support, are set to be rolled out over the next 12 months alongside further content.
Could we see ACC fans migrate across to LMU? All the ingredients are there.
4. EA SPORTS F1 25
As part of its yearly sports game catalogue, Electronic Arts is expected to release yet another Formula 1 game. It will no doubt include next season’s schedule and its wildly different driver roster.
Other specifics will be revealed over time, but we expect another instalment of its story mode – Braking Point. Developer Codemasters has previously confirmed that it works on a two-year cadence for this feature, so in 2025 it’s time for a return.
5. Assetto Corsa EVO
There’s a lot of pressure on the Italian creative team Kunos Simulazioni when the third Assetto Corsa game releases next year.
When it initially arrives in January (early access) it is expected to include not only a simulation driving experience, but dynamic weather, an in-game economy, multiplayer and even free-roam driving around an open area.
EVO sounds like it is trying to appeal to all types of drivers – let’s see if it can over the coming months.
